This is the documentation of “Let’s cook some Arduino together”

Fiducial

28 07 2010

On the concept I’m formulating for my final project I need to track food inside the kitchen. I thought about image detection, but that’s hard to prototype, especially in a not “neutral environment” so I decided to experimenting with fiducial.
But… maybe I pushed this to far ;-p

Get crazy with food!

21 07 2010

Before summer break, Ishac and me, we were working together for Lego.
We found a nice space for our creativity, so nice that we couldn’t stop and leave it in the class… and what’s a better place to carry it, if not the kitchen?
Ishac had this idea to transfer the experimentation with materials, in food field, and when I heard his proposal I accepted to participate without hesitation.
Since I’m working on food for my final project aswell, I thought that get crazy on make weird combination in taste and consistence will be a nice way to refresh my mind on the topic.

We went to the supermarket and bought ingredients we liked, and when we got home we made a list of things to cook:
°° ham rolls with ricotta, soy bean sprouts and paprika
°° melon with cream and rigatino
°° brown pasta, grapes, pecorino, pine nuts, yogurt and pepper (in the oven)
°° rolls filled aubergines with pear + different spices on it – curry or curcuma or turmeric
°° rolls filled leaks fried in orange juice + cinnamon
°° rolls with avocados with ricotta + paprika powder
°° strawberry with balsamic vinegar

if you want to know more about this crazy evening Ishac is much more scientific that me in documenting the process!

Let’s cook some Arduino together

29 04 2010

Here we are… the final project is in front of us. What am I going to do? Don’t know yet exactly. I’ve picked 4 words that synthesize my starting point: social, collaborative, performance, esthetic.
In the other hand, some of my schoolmates suggested me to work with food. I don’t think I would like to work with food, because it is my passion and I don’t want to reinforce the Italian stereotype. But. I also thought that there is something that embrace these words, that I’ve already experienced: making the homemade pasta together. So, I thought that this could be an interesting experience using the same process, doing something completely different. Something that if you do alone is so boooooooooring and take toooooooo much, but if you do it together it has some kind of magic…like learning physical computing for someone that has no knowledge about it.
I was thinking… how can I merge this with something that has no smell or taste? I said to myself….let’s start from the experience! So I asked some friends to help me, and teach me an Arduino recipe, and make it together.

Yesterday, the first cooking lesson happened for real, with Jacek Barcikowski as grandma that know the secrets of homemade pasta.
I have to say, it was amazing to learn with him. The experience was much closer to making pasta than I expected.
Work with hands, drinking coffee, gossiping… everything seems so easy!

Sidetrack

17 03 2010

The ‘Sidetrack’ table peripherally records you as you work in the home, tracing a pattern as you move from space to space. Markers plot this pattern as the table spins, oscillating in time with your movement between rooms. Sensors are placed in the areas you want to observe, for example the desk, or the kitchen.  By placing tags on the table, you purposefully work towards set tasks, with the patterns reflecting the journey towards these objectives. In this way, giving value to the intangible effort and pockets of time you devote whilst working from home.

People Centred Research

2 03 2010

I feel guilty, not to say anything about the user research course (nov-dec 2009).
It have been such an intense period that it’s hard to explain what we’ve been through, especially in some words.
but…I just want to say that I was so glad we had the opportunity to do research for real in Hillerod Hospital, and I’m glad I shared this experience with “the best team ever” (Ishac,Jacek, Jesper, Pedro,Sebastian).

We worked it the pediatrician deparment, and the staff  there have been super helpful and nice with us.
We had the opportunity to interview them, and observing how they work, and they introduced us also to some patient and patient’s parents to interview them as well.
We discovered that the pediatrician department should became a “family department” and we decided to work in this direction.
